How Can You Deal With Points From Speeding Tickets?

An average of about three million traffic tickets are issued in the State of New York every year, with more than 500,000 of those tickets being speeding tickets. What happens if your convicted of a speeding ticket and what can you do if you have been issued a speeding ticket or any other moving violation?

What Are Points On Your License?

The “points” on your license are a penalty on your license whenever you are convicted of certain moving violations, in addition to any other fines or fees. Generally, the more severe the traffic violation you commit, the larger the number of points that get added to your license. Any points you accrue, whether from speeding tickets or other violations, stay on your license for eighteen months.

What Are the Consequences of Getting Points From Speeding Tickets or other moving violations?

If you accrue six or more points on your license in an eighteen-month period, you will be subject to a Driver Responsibility Assessment. For six points, the assessment is an annual fee of $100 for three years. The fee goes up an additional $25 for every point over six points. For example, 8 points would mean you must pay $150 each year.  If you accrue eleven or more points on your license in that same period, your license may be suspended, effectively meaning you can no longer legally drive. Moreover, getting more points on your license will result in higher insurance rates, which may remain elevated up to three years after your ticket.

Great attorney!! Had amazing results with a complicated case due to marital issues. 10/10 recommend. Communication was always great. Had many attorneys prior and this had been the best so far. Thanks fox team!!
Our family has been involved in two separate car accidents, one at a red light and one where the other driver blew the stop sign. On both cases we had the privilege of having Daniel Fox handle our cases. Having to deal with our injuries, reports, appointments, forms, insurance companies and every day life was already so overwhelming, however, Daniel made it more bearable. He was always so patient, understanding and professional when entertaining all of our calls and questions. He always returned our calls in a timely manner and kept us informed of the process and anything we had to do our end. Daniel was always personal, professional and knowledgeable. I was a pleasure working with him and his firm. I will definitely recommend him to family and friends. We are truly and forever thankful.
I contacted Dan with help reducing a speeding ticket. Not only was he able to reduce the charge to a parking ticket, but he was constantly updating me on the process and took care of everything for me. The entire process could not have been easier or more positive, and I would highly recommend Dan to anyone in a similar position that needs legal representation.
